Uncommon Sense
Included in the "Into the Fire, Volume I: The Pressure" collection.

Growing up, I always knew
The meaning of common sense
Such a constant, known by all
It stood on no pretense
As I aged, so did this term
Was rendered obsolete
Not so common anymore
The concept took a backseat
Now I see where it went wrong
Consensus is its mother
People must agree on things
One way or another
Now the last thing we do
Is to see eye to eye
Can’t agree the sky is blue
The divisions make me sigh
Why are people so hell-bent
To be right above true
Cling so tight to ignorance
Rewrite history anew
You’d think leaders would step in
And bring the masses ‘round
They’re addicted to the chaos
Where is our middle ground?
Half believe all the bluster
The other digs in deep
Common sense: superpower
We all turn into sheep
Best believe it isn’t gone
It’s just become more rare
If it runs deep in your bones
Doesn’t it feel unfair?
Author's Note:
This piece came from a place of frustration but also clarity. Maybe sense isn’t so common anymore… but it’s still worth writing toward. — Liora

These pieces are sharp, unflinching, and unwilling to go quietly, calling out injustice, dismantling false narratives, and naming the rot in systems that would rather we stay silent.
