This piece carries themes of loss, remembrance, and national service. Please read with care and reverence.

Where did you go

How far did you walk

To serve and defend

Why did you think

To do that for us

Could you see the end?

Or did you plan

A life beyond

Space where you could breathe?

Never knowing

Your minutes were few

Sure of path beneath

You fought bravely

For kin and country

Preserved Liberty

Would you change it

If you knew your fate

Seen in periphery

Oh how I wish

It was different

That you’d come back home

But it is with

The deepest honor

Your sacrifice is known

Author's Note:

Written quietly in the early hours of Memorial Day, this piece came through as I sat with memory, reflection, and the weight of sacrifice.
It’s not about politics. It’s not about glorifying war.
It’s about the human cost. The ones who didn’t come home.
And the ache they leave behind.
